Raduno Zucchero Official Fans Club 2008

13 Settembre 2008: La Dogana - Cremona. V° RADUNO dello ZUCCHERO OFFICIAL FANS CLUB.

13 September 2008: La Dogana - Cremona. 5th MEETING of the ZUCCHERO OFFICIAL FANS CLUB.

The much-awaited international meeting of the ZUCCHERO OFFICIAL FAN CLUB was held in the wonderful setting of the port of Cremona, at the La Dogana discotheque on Saturday 13 September 2008. Despite the ominous leaden sky, the first fans started to arrive in the morning for the long wait to 5.30 pm when the party was due to begin. The fan club stand was there, as always, to greet them with merchandising products and a photograph exhibition by Paolo Simonazzi dedicated to Zucchero. After the final adjustments to the sound and lighting systems, the great musical afternoon got under way with a series of singers from various Zucchero tribute bands performing on stage (Federico Biagetti, Giorgio Piovera, Fabrizio Buonaccorsi, Rodolfo Maddaluno, Silvano Stocchero and Elio Ericina) presented by Giuseppe Lopizzo. At 8 pm it was the turn of Irene Fornaciari who, with a really captivating set, prepared the way for Zucchero who took the stage at around 9 pm. A few greetings, and then lots of songs, some of them accompanied by the house band for the evening, and also many on his own; he performed a lot of songs from his own repertoire, but also “tribute” songs, “fished” from the crowd of young fans at the meeting who suggested to Zucchero what to improvise. Between one song and another, he shared stories and anecdotes connected with his career. At around 11.30 Zucchero left the stage and dedicated some time to the fans requesting his autograph and photo. He left the venue at 00.30 to get some rest and after a day of great music the fans made their way home.

ZUCCHERO SCALDA I SUOI FAN

«A NOVEMBRE NUOVO DISCO LIVE»

Yesterday the bluesman met his loyal followers at Porto

ZUCCHERO STIRS HIS FANS

The autumnal day failed to spoil the party. The singer arrived at 6 pm but didn’t appear on stage until 9 pm
On the stage specially set up for the event Sugar sang hits from his latest albums to the excitement of the crowd

CREMONA – And finally, Zucchero arrived. It was 9 pm when Sugar finally appeared on the catwalk of the motorship, Mery, and greeted the audience numb with the damp and cold which yesterday evening decided to put an end to the long summer of 2008. It had been a very long wait for the fans who were at the international meeting dedicated to the artist, an event organised at La Dogana. Zucchero arrived at Porto Canale at around 6 pm; he spent a few hours relaxing on the motorship before turning to his public. The long wait had begun – at least for a small group of fans – at around 5 pm, when the gates to the Porto Canale area were opened. The group greatly got bigger as the hours went by, until exceeding a thousand people: it was a very mixed crowd, composed of families, couplet and groups of friends. A number of people emulating Zucchero in “poser” version stood out in the crowd, eccentric-looking enough to raise a smile with their explicit reference to a postcard version of New Orleans. Capturing most of the attention were the various Zucchero lookalikes (at least a handful) who were wearing boots, jackets and hats in « Fly-style»: these were the guests who took it in turns to perform on the stage – members of more or less famous tribute bands – resembling Zucchero to the extent of fooling even the most hardened fan. This was especially the case for the Irish-Italian Elio Ericina, who really does seem to be Adelmo’s twin. He’s also able to sing in a voice remarkably similar to that of the Reggio bluesman.
Fans from all over Italy wondered past stands pulling beer and serving barbequed meat, stalls with merchandise and panels from a photographic exhibition set up in honour of the illustrious special guest. There were some fans from abroad: Yvonne and Gody, in fact, had come specially from Switzerland to meet their idol. But there were also lots of people from Cremona. This was the case of the young friends Laura, Magda and Francesca («I hope to get at least an autograph” they say anxiously) and little Chiara. She’s only ten years old and is wondering about a bit bewildered while holding the booklet of one of Zucchero’s CDs: «I’m really so happy». Graziana, Tony and Doriana from Treviso were among the most excited, defying the rain with their energy; also worth mentioning is the impatience of the incredibly blond Olga and Anastasia, mother and daughter from Russia but Pisan by adoption.

«A NEW LIVE RECORD IN NOVEMBER»

Fornaciari makes a surprise announcement of a new live collection
Introducing the evening’s music was Zucchero’s daughter Irene with her group

CREMONA – With ruffled hair and the look of someone who’s only just got up, the singer sits at the piano on his own and it’s immediately clear that he’s in the mood for talking. He recounts stories (about Paul Young, Joe Cocker and Bongusto), he replies to comments from the crowd and acts like someone who wants to take it easy for one night. The atmosphere is, in fact, a long way from that of a normal concert. It all feels like a friends’ reunion, with time to have a sip of beer (accompanied by a prompt cheer from the audience) have a chat and – of course – play some music. He starts in soft tones (Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime, Nel Cosi Blu, È Delicato) and then calls up the band which had previously played with his daughter, Irene Fornaciari. «Any news is first given to the fan club, right? - he says- Even before telling me: well, I’m able to tell you that this afternoon we finished mixing a new record, a live album which will be released in November and which will contain pieces recorded at the recent concerts in Milan and Verona… you were there weren’t you?». This announcement was greeted with clapping and cheers, followed by Bacco perbacco and the crowd at La Dogana started to dance to the notes of the mix of rhythm’n’blues. This was only the beginning, because Occhi then arrived, followed by a long series of present and past hits. It was a concert that certainly satisfied the fans who had been in the concert area since 5.30 pm to hear the performances of the very young Federico Biagetti, Giorgio Piovera, Fabrizio Bonaccorsi, Rodolfo Maddaluno, Silvano Stocchero and Elio Ericina. The last to appear on the Porto stage before Sugar was Irene, the bluesman’s daughter and author of easy and intense pop songs. Irene- who had successfully warmed up the crowd – also performed a number of covers such as Nothing compares to you by Sinead O'Connor, Get Back by the Beatles and Prod Mary by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
